Our Special Rakhi's

We have sourced our Rakhi's from EkiBeki, an NGO dedicated to preserving, sustaining and growing the dying crafts of India. The local artisans have struggled, and found themselves out of place in this digital globalized age. EkiBeki helps organize and support the craft of local artisans by creating a self sustaining ecosystem of  producer owned groups crafting handmade products.

The Rakhi

Crafted by EkiBeki's team of artisans from the western ghats of Maharashtra, India. Copper Enamelling is the age-old craft of fusing glass onto the copper surface for color enrichment. We have the Bappa and the Kanha Rakhi's from EkiBeki available. Elegant, timeless design made by artisans who have painted India's beautiful, diverse tapestry for generations.

The Process

The glass powder is laid onto the copper surface in the requisite patterns and the assembly is heated to 700 to 900°C, at which point the powdered glass melts to form a coat on the copper surface.

This glass enamelling not only lends its vibrant colors to the copper surface, but also prevents it from oxidising, thereby rendering it more usable.

The stringing is done by a traditional Patwa artisan using ecofriendly cotton.
